FlexTrades is hiring experienced Hone Lap Machinists for nationwide project-based assignments supporting high-precision machining and hydraulic component manufacturing.

This opportunity is designed for machinists with hands-on experience setting up and operating manual honing and bench lapping equipment. The role requires the ability to hold extremely tight tolerances, verify surface finishes and inspect small-diameter components throughout production.

Position Overview

The Hone Lap Machinist sets up and operates manual bore honing and manual bench lapping machines to finish precision hydraulic components.

This position works with hardened stainless steel and chrome-plated parts ranging from .150 inch to 1/2 inch in diameter. Machinists will perform honing, lapping, polishing, dimensional inspection and hydraulic flow bench verification while maintaining strict quality standards.

Responsibilities

  • Set up and operate manual bore honing machines
  • Set up and operate manual bench lapping machines
  • Hone and lap precision hydraulic components to extremely tight tolerances
  • Work with small-diameter parts ranging from .150 inch to 1/2 inch
  • Perform polishing operations on hardened stainless steel components
  • Perform polishing operations on chrome-plated components
  • Read and interpret blueprints and engineering drawings
  • Follow routers and written work instructions
  • Measure and inspect parts using air gauges
  • Use micrometers, profilometers and hand gauges
  • Verify dimensional accuracy throughout production
  • Inspect parts for surface finish and overall quality
  • Perform hydraulic flow bench verification on completed components
  • Document inspection results
  • Record discrepancy information as required
  • Maintain quality standards in a high-precision job shop environment
  • Follow established safety, quality and manufacturing procedures

  • Experience setting up manual honing machines

  • Bore honing experience
  • Bench lapping experience
  • Precision manufacturing background
  • Experience holding tight machining tolerances
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints
  • Knowledge of GD&T
  • Experience using precision measuring instruments
  • Hydraulic component manufacturing experience

HBM Machinist operating a 5-axis Horizontal Boring Mill in a precision machining facility

FlexTrades is hiring experienced HBM Machinists for nationwide project-based assignments supporting large-part machining and heavy industrial manufacturing operations.

This opportunity is built for machinists with experience setting up and operating large Vertical Turret Lathes, Vertical Boring Mills or comparable CNC lathe equipment. The role involves machining large steel components, making offsets, changing tooling and performing in-process inspections in a job shop environment.

Position Overview

The HBM Machinist sets up and operates large CNC machining equipment with a focus on Vertical Turret Lathes and Vertical Boring Mills.

Machinists will complete turning, drilling, tapping, boring and slotting operations on large carbon steel and stainless steel parts. This position requires blueprint reading, basic GD&T knowledge and the ability to make independent machine adjustments that maintain dimensional accuracy and production quality.

Responsibilities

  • Set up and operate large Vertical Turret Lathes with Fanuc controls
  • Operate Vertical Boring Mills and comparable large CNC lathe equipment
  • Machine large carbon steel and stainless steel components
  • Perform turning, drilling, tapping, boring and slotting operations
  • Make machine offsets and adjustments to maintain part quality
  • Change tooling during setups and production runs
  • Assist with machine setup verification
  • Read and follow blueprints, setup sheets and work instructions
  • Perform deburring using grinders, files, Scotch-Brite and buffing tools
  • Conduct in-process inspections using calipers, micrometers and other measuring instruments
  • Verify completed work meets established quality requirements
  • Document inspection results accurately
  • Move large parts and fixtures using overhead cranes and forklifts
  • Maintain a clean, safe and organized work area
  • Follow all established safety, quality and manufacturing procedures

Required Qualifications

  • Experience setting up and operating VTLs, VBMs or large CNC lathe equipment
  • Ability to make machine offsets and operating adjustments
  • Experience machining large and heavy components
  • Experience machining stainless steel and carbon steel
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints
  • Understanding of basic GD&T
  • Experience using calipers, micrometers and other precision measuring tools
  • Experience performing deburring with hand and power tools
  • Ability to work with large parts in a job shop environment
  • Ability to work in a loud and dirty manufacturing environment
  • Ability to work in shop temperatures that may be hot or cold depending on the season

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience operating Fanuc-controlled machines
  • Experience machining large forgings
  • Overhead crane experience
  • Forklift experience
  • Experience working in nuclear manufacturing
  • Experience working in heavy industrial or similar manufacturing environments

Training may be provided for overhead crane and forklift operation.
