Painter
FlexTrades is hiring experienced Painters for nationwide project-based assignments supporting industrial, automotive and heavy equipment manufacturing operations.
This role is designed for painters who have hands-on experience with spray equipment, surface preparation and multi-stage coating systems, and who can maintain consistent finish quality across large manufactured assemblies.
Position Overview
The Painter will prepare and coat custom fire trucks, vehicle bodies and manufactured components using primer, base coat and clear coat finishes.
This position requires experience with spray application equipment, surface preparation, paint quality inspection and the ability to follow detailed coating specifications and production requirements.
Responsibilities
- Prepare surfaces for painting through sanding, cleaning and masking
- Apply primer, base coat and clear coat finishes
- Operate pressure pot spray equipment
- Spray custom fire trucks
- Paint vehicle bodies and manufactured components
- Follow paint specifications and mixing instructions
- Follow established standard operating procedures
- Apply multiple coats while maintaining proper coverage and finish quality
- Sand and buff surfaces between paint stages as needed
- Inspect painted surfaces for defects
- Complete paint touch-ups when required
- Use digital mil gauges to verify coating thickness requirements
- Use other quality tools as required
- Read and follow work instructions
- Follow paint specifications and production schedules
- Maintain a clean and organized work area
- Follow established safety procedures
- Work safely from ladders and scaffolding when accessing large assemblies
- Support paint preparation and related production activities as assigned
Qualifications
- Experience spray painting in a manufacturing, industrial, automotive, aerospace or heavy equipment environment
- Experience applying primer, base coat and clear coat finishes
- Experience using pressure pot, gravity feed or siphon feed spray guns
- Ability to prepare surfaces through sanding, masking and cleaning
- Ability to identify paint defects
- Ability to correct paint defects and perform touch-ups
- Experience working from detailed work instructions
- Ability to follow established quality standards
- Familiarity with paint thickness measurements
- Familiarity with coating quality inspections
- Ability to work on large assemblies while maintaining consistent finish quality
- Strong attention to detail and workmanship
- Ability to work safely in a fast-paced manufacturing environment
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience applying metallic coatings
