Controls Technician
FlexTrades is hiring experienced Controls Technicians for nationwide project-based manufacturing assignments supporting industrial electrical systems, PLC-controlled equipment and production maintenance operations.
This role is designed for technicians with strong electrical troubleshooting skills who can diagnose PLC, controls and machine-related issues while helping minimize equipment downtime in a manufacturing environment.
Position Overview
The Controls Technician will troubleshoot and repair PLC-controlled production equipment, electrical systems and industrial controls.
This position requires hands-on experience with ladder logic, motors, drives, VFDs, servo systems, sensors and safety circuits, along with the ability to diagnose problems even when electrical prints or schematics are incomplete or outdated.
Responsibilities
- Troubleshoot and repair PLC-related equipment issues
- Diagnose electrical and controls-related problems
- Support reactive maintenance activities to minimize equipment downtime
- Maintain and troubleshoot production equipment and control systems
- Read and interpret PLC ladder logic for troubleshooting and diagnostics
- Make approved PLC edits and modifications as directed by Engineering
- Support new equipment installations
- Assist with equipment upgrades and modifications
- Troubleshoot motors and motor control systems
- Diagnose drives and VFDs
- Troubleshoot servo systems and servo motors
- Diagnose sensors and machine control devices
- Troubleshoot safety circuits
- Trace wiring to identify electrical and controls issues
- Diagnose problems when electrical prints or schematics are outdated or incomplete
- Assist with electrical cabinet wiring and assembly during equipment installations
- Support machine safety systems
- Troubleshoot interlocks, guarding controls and emergency stop systems
Qualifications
- Experience working in a manufacturing maintenance environment
- Strong electrical troubleshooting experience
- Controls maintenance experience
- Ability to troubleshoot PLC-controlled equipment
- Experience with Allen Bradley and/or Rexroth PLCs
- Proficiency reading PLC ladder logic
- Experience troubleshooting motors and motor controls
- Experience with drives and VFDs
- Experience troubleshooting servo motors and servo systems
- Ability to troubleshoot electrical cabinets and machine control systems up to 480V
- Experience with sensors, interlocks and safety circuits
- Ability to read and interpret electrical prints and schematics
- Experience tracing wiring
- Ability to diagnose controls issues when documentation is incomplete
