Inspector
FlexTrades is hiring experienced Inspectors for nationwide project-based manufacturing assignments supporting electronics production and quality operations.
This role is designed for inspectors with active IPC-A-610 and J-STD-001 certifications who have hands-on experience inspecting PCBs, PCBAs and CCAs. Candidates should be comfortable working under magnification, evaluating high-density surface mount assemblies and identifying solder and component defects against established acceptance criteria.
Position Overview
The Inspector will perform detailed visual inspections of electronic assemblies using IPC-A-610 standards and customer-specific requirements.
This position requires experience inspecting small components and fine-pitch assemblies, recognizing acceptable and defective solder conditions, documenting nonconformances and maintaining accurate inspection records within an ESD-controlled manufacturing environment.
Responsibilities
- Inspect surface mount circuit boards using IPC-A-610 standards
- Apply customer-specific inspection and acceptance requirements
- Perform detailed visual inspections using microscopes at 20x magnification or greater
- Inspect solder joints for acceptable and defective conditions
- Verify component placement
- Inspect assemblies for exposed copper
- Identify scratches and other surface defects
- Inspect conformal coating and other applicable quality characteristics
- Review inspection documents and drawings
- Review photographs and established acceptance criteria
- Identify and document defects and nonconforming conditions
- Separate accepted and rejected units based on inspection results
- Maintain accurate inspection records and documentation
- Use microscopes, tweezers, computers and inspection tools
- Work within an ESD-controlled manufacturing environment
- Follow cleanroom requirements
- Follow foreign object debris control requirements
Qualifications
- Active IPC-A-610 certification
- Active J-STD-001 certification
- Experience inspecting PCBs, PCBAs or CCAs in a manufacturing environment
- Experience inspecting high-density surface mount circuit boards
- Experience working with small electronic components including 0402 components or smaller
- Ability to recognize acceptable and defective solder conditions
- Understanding of lead-free solder characteristics
- Understanding of tin-lead solder characteristics
- Experience using microscopes for electronic inspection
- Strong attention to detail
- Strong documentation skills
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience inspecting fine-pitch electronic assemblies
