CNC Machinist (Large Format)
FlexTrades is hiring experienced CNC Machinists (Large Format) for nationwide project-based assignments supporting precision machining operations.
This role is designed for machinists who can independently set up and operate CNC VTLs and other large-format CNC equipment, make offsets and program adjustments, inspect their own work and maintain tight tolerances on large precision components.
Position Overview
The CNC Machinist (Large Format) will set up and operate CNC VTLs and large-format machining equipment used to produce gears, shafts, housings, gearbox assemblies and other precision components.
This position requires strong setup skills, blueprint knowledge and hands-on experience with GD&T, inspection tools and machine adjustments in job shop or high-mix manufacturing environments.
Responsibilities
- Set up and operate CNC VTLs and large-format CNC machining equipment
- Perform machine changeovers and complete setups independently
- Use control sheets and process documentation to complete machine setups
- Make machine offsets and program adjustments as needed
- Machine large precision components including gears, shafts, housings and gearbox assemblies
- Read and interpret blueprints and manufacturing documentation
- Perform first article inspections
- Complete in-process inspections throughout production
- Verify dimensions and tolerances using precision measuring tools
- Follow GD&T requirements during machining and inspection
- Perform runout and concentricity inspections
- Maintain required quality standards
- Complete inspection documentation accurately
- Gather, organize and maintain tooling required for machine setups
Qualifications
- Experience setting up and operating CNC VTLs or large-format CNC lathes
- Ability to complete CNC machine setups independently
- Experience working in a job shop or high-mix manufacturing environment
- Strong blueprint-reading skills
- Working knowledge of GD&T
- Experience making machine offsets and adjustments
- Knowledge of Fanuc or Okuma controls
- Ability to hold tolerances to +/- .001?
- Ability to provide and use personal machinist tools
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience machining steel forgings
- Experience machining ductile iron castings
