CNC HBM Machinist
FlexTrades is hiring experienced CNC Horizontal Boring Mill Machinists for nationwide project-based assignments supporting large-component and precision machining operations.
This opportunity is designed for machinists who can set up and operate large-format horizontal boring mills, work independently from blueprints and complete complex setups in low-volume, high-mix manufacturing environments.
Position Overview
The CNC HBM Machinist sets up and operates large-format CNC horizontal boring mills and floor mills to machine large weldments, forgings, plate steel and fabricated components.
This position requires experience with Fanuc controls, G-code and M-code programming, tooling management and precision inspection. Setup times may range from 30 minutes to 10 hours depending on the size and complexity of the component.
Responsibilities
- Set up and operate large-format CNC horizontal boring mills
- Operate floor-type and table-type HBM machines
- Set up and operate CNC floor mills
- Read and interpret blueprints, prints and setup documentation
- Complete machine setups ranging from 30 minutes to 10 hours
- Machine large weldments, forgings, plate steel and fabricated components
- Make offsets and adjustments for tool wear
- Adjust feeds and speeds as required
- Change, load and manage tooling during setups and changeovers
- Inspect completed parts using precision measuring instruments
- Verify that machined parts meet specified tolerances
- Hold tolerances as tight as .001 inch
- Operate overhead cranes for material handling and part positioning
- Troubleshoot machining issues
- Solve setup and production problems independently
- Follow established safety, quality and manufacturing procedures
Qualifications
- Experience setting up and operating CNC horizontal boring mills
- Experience with floor-type or table-type HBM equipment
- Proficiency using Fanuc controls
- Working knowledge of G-code and M-code
- Ability to set up parts from blueprints and prints
- Experience machining large weldments and fabricated components
- Ability to make machine offsets and tool wear adjustments
- Experience completing complex machine setups
- Experience working with long machine cycle times
- Ability to inspect parts using precision measuring equipment
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work independently
- Ability to work in a low-volume, high-mix manufacturing environment
