Welder
FlexTrades is hiring experienced Welders for nationwide project-based assignments supporting heavy fabrication and manufacturing operations.
This opportunity is designed for welders with strong MIG welding, fit-up and blueprint-reading skills who can work on large radiator tanks, plate assemblies and tube-to-plate components while maintaining tight dimensional requirements.
Position Overview
The Welder performs MIG welding using .035-inch wire, an 86/14 argon and CO2 gas mixture, and pulse spray settings.
This role requires experience completing fillet and groove welds, single-pass and multi-pass welds, and long seam welds in the 2G position. Welders will also lay out, fit, square and tack components with minimal fixturing while working to blueprint and AWS welding requirements.
Responsibilities
- Perform MIG welding using .035-inch wire
- Weld using an 86/14 argon and CO2 gas mixture
- Use pulse spray welding settings
- Complete fillet and groove welds
- Weld lap, butt and T-joints
- Perform single-pass and multi-pass welds according to specifications
- Weld plate-to-plate assemblies
- Weld tube-to-plate assemblies on large radiator tanks
- Weld approximately 6-inch diameter pipe and tube components in two passes or less
- Perform long weld seams in the 2G position
- Lay out, fit, square and tack components with minimal fixturing
- Maintain dimensional tolerances within .030 inch when required
- Read and interpret blueprints
- Read and interpret AWS welding symbols
- Follow work instructions and weld procedures
- Grind welds and tank features to print specifications
- Inspect completed work against blueprint requirements
- Support first article inspections
- Follow established safety, quality and manufacturing procedures
Qualifications
- Experience performing MIG welding in a manufacturing environment
- Experience welding large-diameter tube, pipe or plate materials
- Ability to weld 6-inch diameter pipe or tube with .120-inch wall thickness in two passes or less
- Ability to perform long weld seams in the 2G position
- Experience completing single-pass welds
- Ability to work within .030-inch dimensional tolerances
- Strong layout and fit-up skills
- Strong tacking skills
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints
- Strong understanding of AWS welding symbols
- Experience inspecting parts to blueprint requirements
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience reading metric blueprints
