Hone Machinist
FlexTrades is hiring Hone Machinists for project-based assignments supporting high-precision manufacturing operations across the United States. This role is built for machinists who understand tight-tolerance finishing work, can manage detailed setups independently, and know how to protect part quality at the micron level.
If you are comfortable working with precision honing equipment, reading ballooned prints, and maintaining extreme tolerances on stainless steel components, this is your lane.
Responsibilities
- Set up and operate manual horizontal Sunnen honing machines for internal diameter honing operations
- Perform full machine setups averaging 2 to 3 hours with minimal changeovers
- Make required offsets and machine adjustments on locked programs without editing code
- Hone stainless steel castings and occasional aluminum components while maintaining tolerances down to ±0.0001 inch
- Follow electronic setup sheets, ballooned prints, and work instructions throughout production
- Perform in-process and final inspections using precision gauges and CMM equipment
- Complete operator-level preventive maintenance tasks
- Manually load and unload parts using pallet jacks and related material handling equipment
Qualifications
- Experience in precision machining with strong setup and inspection fundamentals
- Ability to read and interpret inch-based drawings and understand GD&T concepts
- Comfortable working in high-tolerance manufacturing environments
- Proficient using precision measurement tools and inspection equipment
- Honing experience with Sunnen or similar equipment preferred but not required
- CMM experience is a plus
- Skilled CNC Mill Machinists with strong setup and inspection backgrounds are encouraged to apply and will receive honing-specific training
