CNC Lathe Machinist
FlexTrades is hiring experienced CNC Lathe Machinists for nationwide project-based assignments supporting precision machining and complex component manufacturing.
This role is designed for machinists who can independently set up and operate CNC slant bed lathes with live tooling, perform first-piece and first-article inspections, and produce tight-tolerance components from demanding materials.
Position Overview
The CNC Lathe Machinist will set up and operate CNC slant bed lathes with live tooling while supporting production machining, inspection and troubleshooting activities.
This position requires strong setup skills, blueprint and GD&T knowledge, and hands-on experience machining stainless steel, titanium, aluminum, composites and high nickel alloys.
Responsibilities
- Set up and operate CNC slant bed lathes with live tooling
- Perform first-piece inspections during machine setup
- Perform first article inspections
- Machine complex, tight-tolerance components
- Read and interpret blueprints
- Follow setup sheets and routers
- Read and follow work instructions
- Apply GD&T principles during setup and machining
- Apply GD&T requirements during inspection activities
- Inspect parts using calipers
- Inspect parts using micrometers
- Use gage pins and dial indicators
- Use precision scales
- Deburr machined parts using hand tools
- Polish and clean completed parts
- Work with stainless steel
- Machine titanium components
- Work with aluminum and composite materials
- Machine high nickel alloy materials
- Troubleshoot machining processes
- Support efficient machine operation
- Train and mentor facility machinists
- Provide guidance on machine setup and tool loading
- Train machinists on measurement techniques and machine operation
Qualifications
- Experience setting up and operating CNC slant bed lathes with live tooling
- Experience machining high nickel alloy materials
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings
- Working knowledge of G-code and M-code CNC controls
- Experience applying GD&T in a manufacturing environment
- Ability to inspect tight-tolerance parts using precision measuring tools
- Experience performing extensive CNC machine setups
- Ability to convert between inch and metric measurements
Preferred Qualifications
- Dual-spindle lathe experience
- Mill-turn experience
- Steady rest experience
