Mill-Turn Lathe Machinist
FlexTrades is hiring experienced Mill-Turn Lathe Machinists for nationwide project-based manufacturing assignments supporting precision CNC machining operations.
This role is designed for machinists with hands-on experience setting up and operating Okuma Multus mill-turn machines with Okuma OSP controls. You’ll run proven CNC programs, make tooling adjustments, perform precision inspections and manufacture components from steel, aluminum and titanium.
Position Overview
The Mill-Turn Lathe Machinist is responsible for setting up, operating and maintaining CNC mill-turn equipment while producing parts to documented dimensions and tolerances.
This position requires strong blueprint reading skills, working knowledge of GD&T and the ability to perform first-piece and in-process inspections using precision measurement equipment.
Responsibilities
- Set up and operate Okuma Multus mill-turn machines with Okuma OSP controls
- Run proven CNC programs
- Make tooling offsets and machine adjustments as required
- Dial in parts to meet specified dimensions and tolerances
- Read and follow blueprints, setup sheets, tool lists and inspection sheets
- Perform first-piece inspections according to documented requirements
- Complete in-process inspections throughout production
- Use micrometers, height gauges, Micro View equipment and CMMs as required
- Select appropriate measuring and inspection tools based on documented requirements
- Manufacture steel, aluminum and titanium firearm components
- Complete required production and inspection documentation
- Perform basic machine maintenance
- Maintain proper coolant levels
- Exchange chip bins as required
Qualifications
- Experience as a Mill-Turn Machinist
- Experience setting up and operating CNC mill-turn machines
- Ability to run proven CNC programs
- Ability to make tooling offsets and adjustments
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints and engineering drawings
- Working knowledge of GD&T
- Understanding of true position and profile callouts
- Experience performing first-piece and in-process inspections
- Proficiency using micrometers and height gauges
- Ability to maintain tolerances up to .0001 inch
- Ability to follow paper-based production and inspection documentation
- CMM experience preferred
