Run Up Technician

FlexTrades is hiring experienced Run Up Technicians for nationwide project-based assignments supporting HVAC, refrigeration and chiller manufacturing operations.
This role is designed for technicians who can perform final equipment testing, diagnose electrical and mechanical failures and verify completed units meet performance and quality requirements before release.
Position Overview
The Run Up Technician performs final testing, troubleshooting and repair on completed HVAC and chiller units.
This position requires experience with energized equipment, refrigeration systems, electrical diagnostics and performance testing. Technicians will also document test results, complete corrective actions and follow established Lockout/Tagout procedures throughout the process.
Responsibilities
- Perform final testing, troubleshooting and repair of completed HVAC and chiller units
- Complete Hi-Pot testing
- Perform Megger testing
- Complete dry testing
- Perform energized run testing
- Conduct wet and performance testing
- Diagnose electrical, mechanical and programming-related failures
- Test fans, sensors, compressors, valves and transformers
- Test PLCs, power supplies, HMIs, relays, pumps and receptacles
- Energize and de-energize equipment according to Lockout/Tagout procedures
- Add or remove refrigerant using recovery tanks, pumps, scales and gauges
- Replace defective components based on test results
- Make approved wiring and control adjustments
- Connect water lines during testing
- Fill and drain systems as required
- Verify units are leak-free during testing
- Complete testing records and defect reports
- Maintain required paper and electronic quality documentation
- Maintain a safe, clean and organized work area
Qualifications
- EPA 608 Type II certification required at minimum
- Experience working with HVAC, refrigeration or chiller systems
- Ability to troubleshoot electrical and mechanical equipment
- Experience using multimeters
- Experience using amp clamps
- Ability to read and understand electrical wiring principles
- Experience performing equipment testing and diagnostics
- Comfortable working with energized electrical systems
- Ability to document testing results and corrective actions
- Experience using refrigeration gauges preferred
- Experience using temperature probes or humidity probes preferred
- Previous Hi-Pot testing experience preferred
