Large Lathe Machinist

FlexTrades is hiring Large Lathe Machinists for nationwide project-based assignments supporting heavy industrial machining and precision repair operations. This role is built for machinists who understand large-format turning, can manage complex setups on massive components, and take full ownership of each job from start to finish.

If you have experience machining large forgings or similar heavy components and can hold tight tolerances while working independently, this opportunity aligns with your skill set.

Responsibilities

• Set up and operate large 2-axis Waldrich Siegen lathes (110 ton and 220 ton) using Fanuc controls
• Machine and repair steam turbine rotor journals in a one-off, custom machining environment
• Perform complex, extended setups including aligning and adjusting large forgings
• Own each job from setup through completion, including all in-process checks
• Inspect completed work to tight tolerances using precision measuring tools
• Safely operate overhead cranes, follow rigging procedures, and work as part of a coordinated team

Qualifications

• Direct experience machining very large parts on heavy-duty lathes required
• Forging experience strongly preferred; castings or weldments acceptable
• Strong blueprint reading skills with comfort working in metric measurements
• Working knowledge of GD&T and precision measurement practices
• Ability to inspect your own work to micron-level tolerances
• Physically able to work at heights, climb stairs frequently, and manage demanding setups
