Nationwide travel-based role with potential job sites in Virginia, Kentucky, and North Carolina.
Job Summary
As a Brazer with FlexTrades, you’ll support the assembly of industrial chillers by installing copper pipe systems and performing precision brazing operations. Working from 3D models, you’ll collaborate with a team to dry-fit and braze piping, mount mechanical components, and assist in system builds from frame-up. Technicians are assigned to Station Two or Station Three, each with distinct responsibilities in mechanical assembly and copper pipework.
Key Responsibilities – Station Two
- Install major components such as evaporators, compressors, pumps, and heat exchangers
- Mount electrical enclosures and route internal wiring (no terminations)
- Lay and dry-fit copper pipe ranging from ¼” to 4.125” in diameter
- Perform brazing operations using acetylene and oxygen compressed gas torches
- Operate bridge cranes with straps to position heavy components
- Use torque wrenches, rivet guns, drills, and pipe assembly lubricants
- Work within 3D model references via VDS system (basic computer skills required)
- Cut pipe to length and ensure fittings are secure prior to brazing
- May be required to braze inside the frame or within tight areas
Key Responsibilities – Station Three
- Perform mechanical assembly and brazing tasks on completed frames
- Install V-blocks to chiller frames for mounting and alignment
- Lay and braze copper pipe, including pipe-to-V-block connections
- Use acetylene and oxygen compressed gas torches (propylene possible in future)
- Work from 3D model references; must be able to access them electronically
- Operate tools including rivet guns, drills, bridge cranes, and torque equipment
- Participate in a brazing training class before performing production work
Candidate Requirements
- Must have direct brazing experience or related welding expertise
- Familiarity with brazing copper piping using compressed gas torches
- Capable of working from 3D models (no step-by-step guides provided)
- Comfortable lifting and positioning components using cranes and straps
- Strong mechanical aptitude and attention to detail
- Able to work in tight or enclosed areas when needed
- Must pass a drug test
- Willing to travel and commit to long-term assignments (3–12 months)
- Available to work 2nd or 3rd shifts with 50+ hours/week

- $30/hour + guaranteed overtime (paid at time and a half)
