Tool & Die Lead

Location: Nationwide – Possible Jobs in Connecticut, Rhode Island, and New York

FlexTrades is hiring experienced Tool & Die Leads for nationwide project-based assignments. This role is ideal for technicians with strong tool and die troubleshooting skills, stamping press setup experience, and the ability to lead teams in high-performance manufacturing environments.

Qualifications

• Proven experience in tool and die troubleshooting, press setup, and operation
• Strong understanding of GD&T (profile, concentricity, perpendicularity, flatness, etc.)
• Ability to interpret technical documentation and retain tribal knowledge
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Comfortable working independently and leading a small team on an off-shift
• Must bring personal tools (tool list provided upon request)

Tool & Die Technician Duties

• Troubleshoot, maintain, and repair hydraulic progressive stamping press tools and dies
• Set up and operate 60-ton to 330-ton progressive stamping presses using Wintress controls
• Collaborate with Setup Technicians to ensure parts meet quality standards
• Work with a wide range of materials: stainless steel (300 & 400 series), brass, copper, aluminum, mild steel, and carbon steel (.004” to ¼” thick)
• Repair dies either in-press or in the tool room, depending on complexity and time constraints
• Use reference materials such as die prints (standard and metric), GD&T documentation, and “Brown Cards” (die history)

Lead Technician Duties

• Perform all Tool & Die Technician and Setup Operator tasks while acting as the shift lead
• Follow the production and repair queue provided by previous shift supervisors and managers
• Make decisions to remove dies from presses when machine, die, or part quality issues arise
• Foster a positive, team-oriented environment and maintain clear communication with technicians and leadership
